Cross-Divisional Paper Sessions | Print |

The Cross-Divisional Paper sessions are designed to promote the sharing and exchange of ideas around several papers in a more intimate format than that of more traditional sessions such as symposia. The following provides some additional information regarding the structure of these sessions.

General Format:

There are two types of Cross-Divisional Paper sessions. One is traditional presentation format, and the other is roundtable format.  Each session consists of 3-4 papers. The papers have been grouped by theme rather than strictly by division so many of the sessions involve participants from multiple divisions. For both session formats, each presenter will give a 15-minute presentation which is followed by discussion led by the session chair/facilitator.

Presenters:

Are you presenting in a CROSS-DIVISIONAL Paper Session in a TRADITIONAL Presentation Format?

Please prepare a PowerPoint presentation. You can find instructions on how to prepare a PowerPoint presentation by visiting the Presenters' Guide. Also BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP! There will be a speaker ready room in each hotel that we advise you to use to preview your presentation. Additionally we advise that you arrive at your session 15 minutes early to set up your computer with the LCD projector. There will be a technician in both the speaker ready room and meeting room to assist you with any technical questions.

Are you presenting in a CROSS-DIVISIONAL Paper Session in a ROUNDTABLE Format?

Please provide a 15-minute presentation of the paper. A standing poster board will be available to post visual aids. A general discussion led by a session chair will follow the presentations. You should bear in mind that this format requires a different preparation than the traditional paper session. Please use the time to talk about the following three items:

  1. The paper's research problem and why it is interesting;
  2. Statement of the paper's conclusion. Explain why it was reached and what is new that adds to our understanding. (Urge the audience to read the paper online for details);
  3. State how specific ideas in at least one other paper in this session could inform future work that builds on your paper. Or alternatively, how specific ideas in your paper could inform the development of another paper in this session.
    Interested individuals can request a copy of the complete paper.

To facilitate discussion during the session, the paper that you originally submitted will be made available online prior to the meeting. This will allow audience members the opportunity to attend the session with some familiarity of the work being presented. Your participation in this system is completely voluntary, but it will add great visibility to your paper in an online format.  If you do NOT wish to participate or would like to upload a revised version of your paper, please go to the AOM submission website.

If you do NOT want to post your paper for public viewing, then you must send a copy of your paper to your session facilitator and the other presenters at the session.  You may obtain their contacts from the online program. Session participants are encouraged to exchange papers with each-other prior to the session to encourage interaction among the presenters.
